Fresh magic truffles are sold legally in the Netherlands. The UK government's own travel advice for the Netherlands says so: the truffle (sclerotium) form "is not covered under Dutch law (Opium Act) and is still sold in regulated 'smart shops'" (FCDO travel advice). In the UK the same truffles are a Class A drug, and carrying them across the border is an import offence with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Every tier on this page therefore shares one rule. What you order is for your stay in the Netherlands, it is delivered to a Dutch address, and it is eaten or thrown away before you leave.
How the tiers are built
The tiers group Avalon Magic Plants' truffles by the strength the shop gives each variety on its own product pages. Avalon calls Mexicana A "mild to medium", puts Atlantis "in the middle range", calls Hollandia and Dragon "strong" and places Valhalla "a step above those". These are the shop's descriptions. The one published laboratory study of fresh truffles found psilocybin levels that differed almost threefold between samples (Pellegrini et al. 2013), so read the tiers as an order of strength and start low within each one.
The full comparison goes through every variety, and the choice guide explains how people move from one tier to the next.
First time or been here before
The switch above the cards changes two things: the amount Avalon suggests on each product page, and which tier is marked. For a first time the plan points to Gentle. For someone who has had truffles before it points to Moderate. A strong truffle straight after one mild session is a big step, and the shop's own advice for its strong varieties starts at half a pack.
Before you order
- Delivery goes to an address in the Netherlands. Avalon sends Dutch orders with PostNL, usually within one working day, and does not ship anything to the UK (ordering for your stay).
- Truffles go in the fridge as soon as they arrive.
- Plan to finish the pack, or bin what is left, before the day you travel (why nothing comes home).
- Read the safety page before the day itself, and the Dutch law page if you want to know why truffles are legal there at all.
